How to Write Clear Objectives

When I first became an instructor, it was very difficult for me to write objectives on the board. They kept looking short and sweet--kind of like a "things to do" or grocery list. Thanks to the advice of a colleague, I have improved my objective writing. We use a resource called Bloom's Taxonomy. It gives a list of various terms (action words) that can be used to help write objectives. This resource has helped me tremendously, and I recommend it to any teacher who has had the same problem.

Leading by Example

Not only am I an instructor myself, I also supervise 6 other instructors in my department. I make it a personal and professional practice to be the best that I can possibly be. I stress the importance of achieving deadlines, communicating with students regularly, and staying in compliance. I feel that if I didn't do what I expect my staff to do, that they would eventually feel that they won't be held accountable for their mistakes. Medical Terminology and how to teach it

ED310: Medical Terminology in Fun & Exciting Ways

I really enjoyed this course. I especially liked the activities called "Secret Identity", "Charades," and Baseball." It is activities like these that help make learning fun and keep everyone engaged in the subject matter. Sometimes a medical terminology class can be a little dry. By implementing these new activities, I am surely excited to see the results. I can't wait to begin and see the students' reactions and feedback.

Medical Puzzles

In addition to crosswords and word searches, I have also used Word Scrambles. Since my class entails spelling quizzes for every unit, I feel that word scrambles are a great way to help students to remember how to spell medical terms correctly. I do make sure that there is a equal mix of easy ones versus hard ones; just to keep them on their toes. =)

Breaking Up the Monotony

It's so important to do various activities in the classroom; most especially in an anatomy or terminology class. These types of courses can be very complex, and monotonous after a while if you don't do anything to spice it up. I especially liked the "Secret Identity" and "Baseball" games presented in this unit. I will be sure to use them in the very near future.

lecture and instructional delivery methods

This course reminded me of how to properly handle difficult student behaviors. Within the discussion forums, I also read through a lot of ideas on how to handle unmotivated students. Overall, I enjoyed it very much. Being the supervisor of 10 instructors, I will advise all my staff to complete ED104.

ED115: Soft Skills

I found a lot of useful information in this course about soft skills. Soft skills are a vital coponent that should be a part of all instructors' personalities. However, the topic within the course that I was most interested in was "Managing Emotions" under the heading about Emotional Intelligence. I tend to get very sensitive and frustrated about some things--especially interpersonal communication. So I would have liked to see more advice about this topic.
