ODD has such a wide discription for students withe difficultes in English language. 

however negative behavior should be delt with at the time of the action, discretly is best however if need be call someone out on the behavior and explain that it is not acceptable in the classroom environment.

wow oh wow, yes sometimes I only want to care as much as my students!  Presently I am teaching an introduction to Baking class to Culinary students, by the way the culinary student has a low interest in baking.  I recently asked one of my students, whay are you coming here?  The response was because I want to learn to cook at home, and Chef, I am insulted you asked me that.  My response was that in a prior class this student was more motivated and had much better attendance, the student's response was, I f***** hate this class and have no desire to bake, I… >>>

I use the white board for class information:  date, start finish time, class lecture material, heck I even through in the weather report and some random trivia.  I then turn to the power point a tool to convey the class information, and use the powerpoint with lecture /demo to convey information.  It can be tricky because you have to keep the students on track, so it just as important to read the class and if they fall off pace, then i have to slow down or redirect them to be successful.

The make up exam can be the same but different.  The thought of having two almost identical exams with the questions in different order can keep students from passing notes with the C, D, A, T, F answers.  keeping the same test in different formats is a great way to switch things up.  one group of students recieves one the next another, while a third version as a make up exam.  This way you do not have to pentalize a student for missing an exam day (sometimes life can get in the way) but encourage them to do well… >>>
