Students rely on consistency of templates to guide their learning. It helps them to learn where to find information and identify what is important. Learning objectives should be chunked into 15 minute intervals for ease of learning. Information should be stored in data bases for easy cross referencing.

Synchronous discussions are best for 1:1 while asynchronous is best for groups. Asynchronous promotes more participation. There are 3 types of learners that may need to be quickly identified, the avoidant, competetive and dependant

Although it is important to project your presence via your academic credentials and expertise, and encourage a personal connection between students, it must be done at a distance. It is important to have a general discussion area to prevent topic discussion from becoming cluttered.

It is just as important for an instructor to be familiar with the online platform as the student. If the instructor is not responsive or the software has glitches, this will greatly impair the student learning.
