All students deserve the same quality of education, and instructors need to focus on the students, not the disability.
Schools need to recognize that not all disabilities are the same, and should not be treated the same. Different accommodations may be needed for students with similar disabilities.
There can be different levels of a disability and schools must recognize that they cannot all be treated the same.
There is a difference between making accommodations for students with a documented disability and those who just request "special treatment".
Blogging is a great way for students to interact. It is less formal than an on line discussion and allows students to comment more freely while still following the guidelines of a rubric.
I had no idea microblogging was becoming so popular! It's a great resource for students to interact with others!
It's important to remember to use rubrics when utilizing media hosting. This enables the instructor to have a basic format and shows the students what is expected of them.
Using social media is a great way to connect with students! It allows interaction between students and instructors with the "ridgedness" of an on line platform.
As an instructor, I need to be aware of a student's disability so that the student can have access to the same quality of education. However, I do need to be careful to not "label" a student based on the disability.
Every student's disability is different and accommodations must not be standardized. What is successful for some could be detrimental to others with the same disability.
