on the first day of class I meet and greet I ask students what they expect out of the class I ask them to tell me something about themselves I take notes and then I make reference to what they talked aboutor their expectations usually this makes them tell me something else I keep a note pad close and when the student leaves or when I can I jot down our conversation and that keeps me with fresh information that I can interject if I find a student losing interest. I have found by letting the students help with lecture and demostration helps with the student understand what I'm talking about. Let me give an example if a student tells me he doesn't understand or does not know what that means I will find another way of presentation. I have used noises hand gestures I have incorporated bring up students and making them part of the lecture. I believe this is one of the most important parts of the day. A recap of the days events, learnings. Just last night a student was in the class room I asked what was new today (learned)One student said he didn't know how to remove the second gauge set now he does. I too have a hard time teaching to the different styles some times I think the learners change the way they like to get the information For example I had a student tell me he had no idea of how we came to a certain conclusion. I went through the same process twice before and the student was successful. this time he bomded my test. I first lectured and explained what I needed for an out come asked question to make sure every one understood. it has been my experience that first I introduce the subject we do some discussing then demostration then the students do demostration we have more discussions to make sure we are on the same page if I have to reenterate I will if demostration have to be redone we do what I don't want is to leave any question unanswered or any doubts about how it works are how to trouble shoot a problem.

I agree with this statment also if the school provides for employment services this has to be a plus and I believe the schools that do this has a better relationship with the student
I agree the more the student knows about school the help he can get the activities all of these pertain to retention I beleive all schools should have an orientation and I believe it should not be a chore I seen some people work through the process as fast as possible just to get it done this is a mistake

this is one of the most important parts of educating the student. most don't understand the process and don't realize how important first interview is. be early be dressed appropriately have a reference cheat sheet talk with sincere voice control be prepared to give examples be prepared to do demostrations when the students returns help him feel good about himself if he gets the job celebrate if not try to find out why and help him interview better give encouragement let the student practice on you.

one of the things that must be remembered is not every one gets it the first time and sometimes not the third time be patient show different avenues of learning to get the same results In other words show different ways to get the same results Use different teachins styles take in new ideas talk with the students to see how they learn best don't be afraid to make mistakes but learn from them.

admissions is the first giant step in retention if every one is helpful and ready to give information or walk a student through a process the student will feel more comfortable asking for help or seeing that he not on his own can get guidance if you will this is an important time in a students life and in some cases be the difference in whether he is successful or not
