Instruction vs Training

Is there another way to explain the difference between instruction and training.

Sandra,
In many ways, these terms are used synonymously. However there is a distinct difference. Instruction is the "know why", whereas, training is the "know-how". Instruction implies imparting knowledge whereas, training implies application of knowledge, or skills.

We explain our offerings like this: Education is the foundation, training is the framework, and working experience is the finishing touches.

To use a construction analogy: Education is the concrete pad (the broader it is the larger the house can be built as long as strength isn't sacrificed); training is the framing of the house or building; working experience is the siding, sheetrock, moulding, flooring, etc...

You need all three to make a complete house. But, if the foundation isn't strong, the rest is on shaky ground and can only be built up so far before crashing down.

Stanley,
Good example. In reality the difference between instruction and training is blurred, and is simply semantics in many cases. Both instruction and training are needed for a complete "educational experience".
