Instructor as Life Coach
I have found that throughout my years of teaching, I tend to develop an almost coaching relationship with my students. Most of my students are adults--can be undergraduate or graduate but they are looking for someone who can help them navigate a path for educational, personal, and career success. Have you often found this as well?

I am a fairly new instructor but I have seen it also, the adult students moreso.
Hi Darcy,
In my experience I have found this to be very true. Adults students are there for an expressed purpose and that is skill training. They are respective of and in need of instructors that can help them with this journey.

I have both adult and just out of high school students. I agree that most students are looking for a guide or director. That's why they are in school. But, I have found, our responsibilities go far past that. Many of my younger students have personnel issues, financial problems and others. While my more experienced students will often bring marital or work issues to class. I find myself in a counselor role as well as instructor.
I agree Adam...we wear many hats other than instructor. This has even extended when my students have already graduated.
