motivating students
Good motivation does a lot for the students.
What are the best ways to motivate students?
discuss students personal vehicle concerns
I think that demonstrating application to a student's life or field of study is a great motivator.
Giving them confidence and showing concern for their success is always a winning strategy.
You can motivate students by letting them know that as much as you are punctual with everything you do, you are still a full time student somewhere else (that is if you are) and still manage to do deliver everything to them professionally.
By directly displaying a positive energetic role model, gives the student a feeling of motivation
I let my students feel that, while I am leading and managing the course, the learning atmosphere is also managed by them. They are responsible for bringing the best of who they are (as students and as people) to the classroom. By acknowledging that they do have a (minimal) level of control, they feel empowered and motivated to help each other learn in a positive, motivating, energetic atmosphere. I remind them that our learning experience is a group effort and that they are all an integral, important member of the team. Treating them as adults and charging them with responsibility inspires them to create their own fulfilling educational experience.
Hi Hayley,
You make a number of very good points about how to work adult learners. They do need to feel respected and empowered in their learning. By taking the approach that you are you are giving them that opportunity as well as helping them to become engaged in the learning process.
