Classroom Management

What technique's are best used with classroom disruption?

One on one conference with student and follow- up meeting.

That is a good course of action in my opinion.

Be Consistent

One of the worst things you can do as a teacher is to not enforce your rules consistently. If one day you ignore misbehaviors and the next day you jump on someone for the smallest infraction, your students will quickly lose respect for you. Your students have the right to expect you to basically be the same everyday. Moodiness is not allowed. Once your lose your student's respect, you also lose their attention and their desire to please you.

Lynn,
You are so right. This will kill your ability to control and administer a class. Consistency is a must.

I agree and I have had to have these types of conferences with students either as a group or just individually.

Sometimes there is a need to do several one on one meetings. When this occurs we need to document the previous meetings and make them more of a formal review of behavoir.

This addresses the issue without breaking trust with the student by singling them out.

I feel that when a student may be disruptive I would stand by the student or ask the student to see me after the class is over. I would communicate the information on paper and explain to the student that the behavior is not tolerated in the classroom.

Valerie,
Good plan. Make sure to document the strategies you have tried so that your administration has an understanding of what is going on. This way you reduce the "she said, he said" exchange that often occurs in situations where the student has to be removed from the class.

I agree and also feel as a instructor you should explain class room exptation on the first day of class. So that they are aware that being disrptive in class is not a option. And if it is adressed to the entire class no one should feel singled out.
