New Instructor

I'm a new instructor with no formal training from a technical institution. All of my training came from OJT and industry based classes. I know the area of study but the technical verbal I'm lacking. Being an instructor now I feel I have to be able to convey the message of study using the proper language. I just want to be a valuable asset to my students.

Earl,
You have a great attitude about wanting to be the learning leader for your students. As you make the transition from the field to the classroom you will quickly see how you can demonstrate what a model of the field should be like. Continue to take courses like this and you will develop a skill set in instructional delivery that will help you to become an effective and efficient instructor.

I am also a new instructor but what I have realized is that students enjoy and understand when you can apply real life situations to any topic you are teaching. Often times, they remember the subject by the real life application you have shared with them, by presenting material in this manner also promotes discussion and interaction among students.

Michele,
Good point about how the students become more connected to the course content when they can see relevancy and application through concrete examples. This is why you should plan your lessons so you give a concept and then reinforce it with an example. This way you are connecting the dots for the students and they will start to value the course and your efforts.
