Dynamic Instruction Requires No Two Classes Are The Same

When facilitating a class, no two sections are the same. Altough course objectives may be the same, the discussion and activities must frame the learner's experience and career interests. Each time material is prepared and activities are designed, the focus must be on the students' career goals to ensure the course provides the maximum benefit to those enrolled.

Debra,
great comments. To me this illustrates the idea that we must be instructors with 10 years of experience (for example) rather than instructors with 1 year of experience repeated 10 times.

Diversity of thought and experience brings a fresh and revitalized breadth of knowledge to the classroom. Adult learners come with their own experiences. Synergies occur when the student can build on the experiences of the instructor. Likewise, learning is a two-way street. My perspective and understanding on topics is enhanced when students share their experiences and knowledge with me. Together we can find energizing ways to review and learn concepts.

Debra,
great benefits noted here. I've also found that it helps show the students that I value their experiences & ideas.

Agreed. Students are constituents to the course objectives as well as benefactors. When we (students and instructor) can agree on value, the resulting team-play builds student confidence and cooperation in the classroom; and creates lasting memories for new knowledge.

Debra,
I like to ask my students what they really want to get out of the course & try to make sure I highlight when we are covering that information (obviously while still covering what is required for completion).

I love to observe how students learn to always change my approach to meet their needs. It facilitates a broader and more accelerated learning environment. The difference in students always makes every class a new and exciting challenge.

Marilyn,
yes that is also why I love teaching & definitely keeps us on our toes.
