Games
I have always been a firm believe that learning should be fun! Games work best in my classroom.
I agree and they can be tied to real world examples, like who can do this boring job the fastest and most effective.
I like games as well. I teach medical terminology. After we discuss terminology, I divide the students into groups. Each group is tasked with developing a game they believe would help someone learn the subject. After everyone has created thier game, I re-organized the groups and they all play each of the games. Each process of the activity provides a great learning experience.
Lisa,
this really is a great review tool. Not only are they learning from the game, but that preparation is helping them, in a fun way, put away the information.

Love computer games there students can use remote control and create teams
I have used competion games in the class but realize sometimes it does embarass some students, I have created cetain games were the students are teamed up against me. This creates a team atmosphere for the students and they love trying to beat the teacher.
william,
yes the games do have to be monitored for this, but it's always nice to beat the instructor.

I love games as well.. I always play the game with my class that is the secret sentence whispered down the line through 7 students during the communication lecture. They always get a laugh about it because the sentence always changes so much. It is fun.
Susan,
games & activities really are a useful way to learn.

I try to make learning fun.
Sometimes a game is used to pick lab groups, or
get first chance at picking engines, parts or cars.
I agree. Learning should be fun otherwise the students will loose interest in the class discussions and subject matter
Games make a great review.
cynthia,
you are right that games really are a great way to review.

Games can be a great learning tool. we just have to make sure it's educational and with a purpose.
Henry,
yes & as I say the power is in the debrief, this generally really helps connect the concepts back to the actual learning.

Tom,
sounds like you've created a great environment where they anticipate learning. And food always helps!
