I FIND IT HARD TO REMEMBER MY STUDENTS NAMES FOR THE 1ST 7 OR SO DAYS. WOULD NAME TAGS BE AND OPTION.

Some bright colored, creative name tags that they can use from week to week. Make them different for each student. So this provide some associative cues for you in addition to their names. Just make sure they turn their tags in after each class!
Repeat their names often in the classroom for the first few days OR have them say their name to you at the appropriate times.
Do you know their names prior to class start? If so, have their names posted on the wall and use the old "put a face with the name" approach. When you have class introductions, ask students to go up and get their name tags.
