Building rapport with students

Building a rapport with students should be something that an instructor strives to do. If we can build a rapport, then we can build trust. If the trust is there they will reach their full potential

It's really not that hard to do either. Just pay attention when they talk and show genuine interest in their success

I have noticed that small things go a long way to build rapport with students. Simply calling them by their name within the first week, returning papers graded in a timely manner, making notes to compliment their correct answers, notes to explain wrong answers are all techniques that can help.

Hi Misty,
You make a good point about building rapport with your students. It is just the simple common sense things that result in good student rapport. Keep up the good work!

I agree. Good point. The key to the lock sometimes is being a comfortable person to talk to. This can take on several different looks depending on the individual you are communicating with.

When you connect with your students many problems seem to go away or become less of an issue. . Discipline problems, student participation, intrest, all seem to improve.

i enjoy sitting and talking to them about personal interest and hobbies, and bring that into the learing experence.

Hi Glenn,
By demonstrating an interest in the students and their backgrounds you are developing rapport Respect and rapport are both critical components of student and teacher success.
