I think that as an instructor you need to show motivation to inspire motivation

I make sure to give the students alot of opportunities to express themselves. I find that students are generally more candid when they feel that you are genuinely concerned with their motivational level and inspiration.

I like to show by example but it must be the right example. This means we must be able to follow before we were able to lead. The right training is key to being a good Instructor but we have to not only teach it but do it everyday.
