Motivating the students
As a tech before an Instructor, I like to discus with my students some of the jobs that I have done in my career before.
The students become more open when there is life stories that they will see in the felled and they become excited about their schooling and become more interested in what we are learning.
Hi David,
These stories and examples are greats ways to create a connection between you and your students. They know you know what you are talking about as a result of having worked in the field. We all come from our respective fields, that is how we got the experience we have but students sometimes forget that part of our expertise so we need to tell them about it once in a while.

During lectures i usually interject a couple of my own work experiences to show how these skills learned helped me solve problems.
I try to relate my own experiences in the field, quite often while teaching. I also welcome students to tell some of their experiences that relate to the subject. this help to keep them interested and motivated.
It also allows you to connect with your students
Using real-life examples in lecture is great for getting the students to understand your train of thought, but can also be used as an impromptu case study. I may give examples of how I fixed a car, but then I prompt them to think of other ways to come to the same conclusion or to think of other problems that may have caused the same thing and discuss them with the class. It definitely gets students to think outside of the box.
I motivate my students by shareing my knowledge and experances and appling this knowledge to the instruction we are giving, real world experance.
By relating personal experance, you can show relavance to other aspects of the feild you are teaching, how it all relates.
