Objectives

Discussing objectives clearly defines making good use of classroom time. Students know what to expect.

I have found that when I come in and write the objectives of the day on the board, class flows more smoothly because the students know what is coming next and what to expect and so they are more prepared for the day, and at the same time it keeps me on track because now that it is written down and the students know what to expect to learn that day I have to stay on task and make sure I hit all the points that were planned for day. In addition to writing the objectives of the day I also put a motivational quote of the day, so when the students come in they are inspired by the quote and it becomes a discussion topic and once they get to talking I am able to move into the lesson and continue to have their participation.

sometimes just going over the objectives turns into a class discussion or a Q&A period. at that point i just go with it and open the floor for my students
