Listening
I make an effort to listen to questions students ask, and then answer, and give them the knowledge where to find the proper answer to better retain that information.
Hi Alcide,
Listening is key! Students need direction/guidance.

I also believe that repeating the question back to the student is key because it lets them know that you really heard them
Hi Victoria,
Yes, when you can repeat a question, a student knows that you understand, care, and have listened to them. Listening is key.

I've noticed that students are very sensitive to your body language, so it is important to make sure that you are fully engaged and actively listening. The slightest hint of distracting body language can be negatively perceived by the students and be interpreted as an indication that you are not listening, or that you don't really care.
Hi Michele,
We need to listen to our students with our undivided attention. Our students deserve for us to give them our all.

Some students that are disruptive and/or loud during the class setting have underlying situational issues that have to dealt with before they can proceed or move on.
I have found that sometimes they need only a listening ear to "get it off their chest". No advising is needed... just active listening.
