The Focus on Stress

It may sound ironic, but I work around individuals that all they focus on is stress and how it is caused and how to avoid it, in all honesty, that is stressing me out. I agree stress is all around us, but the lengths some individuals will go to causes other people significant amounts of stress. If I have to listen to one more relaxation CD I think I will go crazy. Has this happened to anyone else?
Kind Regards,
Lee

This sounds like a difficult challenge Lee. Yes, for some instructors, having to talk about stress with others all the time is actually stressful. Sometimes, trying to focus on not getting stressed out makes you think about it more and makes the situation worse. Helping the people around you understand where you're coming from is a good first step.

Working around stress focused individuals is very hard. It makes it hard on all parts of a person, mentally and physically. I don't have this occurring in my current positions but I can understand how this can upset a person. I don't know how to work around this but people feeling stress in any part of their life may feel like since they are stressed everyone should also feel the same thing and may go out of their way to continue to carry on with it.

It can be a real challenge to work with people who are stressed out Connie. Even if you are not stressed out yourself, they can sometimes rub off on you.

It is very difficult to work in conjuction with other instructors that do not have the same teaching stlye. It causes enormous amounts of stress for the students, which casuse stress for the each teacher. It is a cycle.

This is true Amy. It's hard to do basic things - like share teaching materials - with instructors who have a different style than you. It can also throw students off. Meeting every once in a while to get on the same page can help.

That is a great point. I know exactly what you are talking about. On the other hand, I was working as a sub and I put a relaxation CD on for the students (elementary level). Days later I asked them if they wanted to play a game or do the CD because they had a bit of free time at the end of the day and they unanimously wanted to listen to the CD. I was amazed at their need to destress.

Wow, that's interesting Robin. I like the way you gave the students choices and let them tell you what made them feel best. It's nice to get a little input when trying to help others.
