Teaching Professional or Professional Teacher
One thing that has caused me stress is that I am a 26-year Professional that now teaches (a Teaching Professional). As teacher for the past 5-years I am being held accountable for a profession where I have no formal training (a Professional Teacher). My formal education was in my chosen profession, not in teaching. Even though have been proven to be successful as a teacher, I feel at times I am unqualified and I am being held accountable to the standards that I am unfamiliar with. How to I bridge this gap or is it just a matter of time and experince as being a teacher? Thoughts?
I can identify with you, because I was hired as an instructor, based on my experience in the career field and not my teaching experience. I am still teaching 3 years later. My best advice is to treat your students with fairness and compassion without compromising your authority. Like me, your administration should be aware of your teaching experience. So I would not be afraid to press them for more assistance or training. The fact that they have you enrolled in Max Knowledge is a good sign. This is my fifth course and I have found a lot of helpful courses when it comes to working with students. You’re not alone in this situation, it will get better.
