Students bring with them many personal and emotional barriers to class. They are adults, they have kids, work, spouse, etc...and with these things life happens. I believe we as instructors are obligated to show we care and offer assistance when necessary. however, we need to be careful of personal barriers as well. We are their instructors and we can be there professionally to help them.
