Challenging Students
I love the suggestion of using their own talkative tendencies to help progress the class. Its a great win win situation.
When I have a challenging student I engage them in helping others students. They like to become a mentor that eithers put them on the spot or enhances there strength as a leader.
I give a challenging student a instructional assignment. They will teach the next topic on hand. I find that it gives them some sort of acomplishment and the students may relate better coming from a fellow student.
I have dealt with a challenging student who is not willing to help others. I see that as a problem when asked to possibly train someone on the job.
I agree that challenging students can be made a mentor. I have found that when you have a challenging student they are lacking attention that is not given to them outside of class. The problems in class are usually due to outside issues not at all pertaining to inside classroom issues. The student usually appreciates being a mentor and looked upon.
Hi Lucinda,
What a great way to utilize someone that needs to be paid attention and feel as though they have a sense of importance.
