dealing with angry students
Sometimes I think the angry student is upset about something that has nothing to do with the class or instructor. It is important to listen to that student, not to pass judgement and certainly not to let it disrupt the class.
I would have to agree with upset students. Sometimes there is nothing I can do about the upset students, except listen and try not to let it affect the learning process.
I agree, sometimes they just need to know you care and most of the time that is perceived when you are take time to listen.
Hi Donna,
Listening is a must when it comes to education! Our students need sounding boards! They have a lot going on personally!

There are many times that I have listened to angry students. We try to problem solve. Even if we have no solutions, I think the students feel better knowing that they can vent in a safe way with me. They usually apologize for venting so enthusiastically. I like to remind them that the energy they show is a reflection of the importance these issues have for them.
Hi Kathy,
Sometimes students just need to simply vent to get their anger/frustration out! We as educators need to be good listeners.

I found that when I let my students vent in a safe environment it really seemed to take the edge off of the day.
Hi Kathy,
Venting is like magic! It works and tend to make things better.
