That is a great question. As an instructor I want my students to get the most out of the course. I need to be the leader that makes sure that happens. Also manging the class means that I am in tune with all the stidents, even the ones who may not speak up much. I want all students to participate and learn.
Class management keeps the class on track as well as how you can plan for how the instruction will be presented.
Hi Angela,
You are on point! As the leader you must drive the ship and get everyone on board. Just remember some may or may not enjoy the ride. Do the best you can to make it an enjoyable and a benefiting ride for all.

Hi John,
It is the instructor's responsibility to produce an enviornment that is right for all to learn in. Even adult students need structure/guidance.

I set the tone DAY ONE! If the class gets off course during class discussions, I quickly stop it and reset it to where we need to be. Students generally respect it.
I recently had a situation where a student was upset over her final grade in a previous class. At the beginning of the new class I had her in, she decided to give me the "silent" treatment. After being professional, I had to get frank & firm to let her know who was in charge and that her grade was earned not given. I reminded her if she wanted to stay silent that was fine but just know it will affect her class participation grade. I reiterated classroom policies, expectation, procedures, etc. She quickly changed her attitude.
I t gives every student a chance to get the education and information they came to school for.
Hi Glenn,
I love your firmness! Students need to know that attitude is everything.

Hi Natasha,
Absolutely! We as educators need to make sure to create an environment that is conducive for effective learning to take place.

class management is critical in educational planning because you must organize what and how you choose to relay information to the students. Without management there would be no way for the instructor to organize lessons in a manner to which its most beneficial to the student. Organization and management go hand in hand. Think of it like this, if i were trying to explain how to do something to someone and gave bits and pieces of information randomly about the topic, then that person couldnt possibly perform the task at hand because there is no order. I may talk about one thing for 2 minutes but then talk about something else for 5 minutes. At the end of the day, what i talked about for 2 minutes may have needed to be talked about for longer and vice versa. Thats why classroom management is so important. Without it you wont be able to pass all information in an organized fashion.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
In order to properly deliver the material successfully class management must be accomplished first. This will allow you the instructor the opportunities to create an environment capable of allowing the students to focus in and learn from your plan.
Hi Salvatore,
Students really do want the instructor to control the class. Everyone suffers when the instructor does not successfully manager their class.

Hi Jamie,
What do you typically do to manage your classes? I let my students know on Day 1 what the rules are and repercussions for breaking rules. If rules are broken the student will be reprimanded as indicated.

Hi Desmomd,
Class management is a must. Adult learners need and appreciate class management. Without class management the students really suffer.

You have to stay in control at all times and manage the classroom.
the success of the students depend on a instructors ability to facilitate the material along with classroom management.
Class management is a critical part of educational planning because if the class is not manageable how is any one learning, engaging, and interacting with mayhem? It is crucial for instructors to introduce a healthy balance of interaction between: instructor-to-student, instructor-to-group, peer-to-peer.
Also, during class management it is important to not suppress the students as individuals. Doing so may cause the students to practice introvert qualities, and in turn, the instructor may not be able to interact with his/her students. Classroom management is an important practice to ensure student success.
Eric, I agree with you. Without classroom management it may be impossible for students to learn in a chaotic setting. Hence, we as instructors must ensure a healthy classroom balance.
Management of class is not only critical for the instructor as well as the student. Most students as well as their instructor like organization and thing s to fall in to place. This keeps your class running like a fine tuned car and their should not be any break downs along the way. Everything runs smoothly for the instructor and the students and everyone is more relaxed and what needs to be accomplished can be. This also helps you recieve the respect you want and need from your students, because you have also gained their trust that you know what you are doing and are knowledgeable in your field.
I believe if there is no class management then the educational planning will be harder to put together. The students will loose interest and you will loose any rapport you may have achieved with your students.
