If you make a mistake in class

If you make a mistake in class it is ok because the students need to see you make a mistake so they know it is ok for the to make a mistake

That is so true. We are all humans, we all make mistakes. We need to show students that when we do make mistakes we own up to them and learn from them, so they will learn to do the same when they go out into the work field.

Hi Alicia,
Nicely responded to. This is a very valuable lesson for students.

I totally agree about admitting the mistake. I do encourage the instructor if a question is posed and the teacher gives the wrong answer, to come back with an appology and the right answer. I have had that issue before with instructors and I tell them that they need to correct the misinformation with the student.

Hi Gerry,
Absolutely, the misinformation must be corrected. We can not mislead our students. They are learning from us.
Patricia

The bottom line is very simple; if you make a mistake, admit it, apologize then move on..students respect honest teachers.

Hi John,
Yes. Own up to mistakes and move forward. We are human; we will make mistakes.
Patricia

Acknowledge the mistake; all people make mistakes from time to time; move on

Hi Mike,
Absolutely! Own up to them and move forward. Mistakes are bound to occur.

I make mistakes during class and sometimes the students correct me as it happens. Other times I ask if they agree with the misinformation I presented them with to see if anyone is paying attention. Many times the student writes down the notes from lecture and they don't have time to interperate what was said.

By giving them the opportunity to correct me for my mistakes they learn they will also make mistakes. I teach them to make mistakes and learn from it. Often times the student has a better grasp on the subject by seeing what happens when they forget to do the right thing at the right time or right sequence. Many times we are taught to do things a certain way and we never no what will be the outcome of failing.

I beleive for training reasons it is as important to learn from doing the wrong thing as it is to do the right thing.

Hi Michael,
I teach various computer courses, and I use the intentional mistake method often so that students will see what happens if they do it wrong. I've noticed by doing something wrong, brings on a better understanding of a concept when I show them the correct way. I agree fully with your philosophy!
