Sense and identify
Closing your eyes open and feel the insruments being able to identify according to different parts of the instruments
GILDA , I like the hands on approach to see if you can identify without looking.

I teach dental hygiene where it is important for students to understand the basic characteristics of instruments. Its amazing how we can learn through touch and it teaches us to identify the parts very well.
Sherry , I'm glad you realize the power of the visual and hands on. It can't be achieved in the same way with only a lecture (verbal).

One thing that I have done for instruments is relay races. The class is divided into two groups with the same instruments in a pile. I will randomly call out an instrument and they must go and get the correct instrument and bring it back. The group that comes back with the correct instrument first wins a point. The team at the end with the most points gets braging rights. The students seem to love that! P.S. I don't use any of the scissors as you should not run with scissors :)
Sarah, thank you so much for sharing this terrific relay idea. It's amazing how engaging the body and mind at the same time gives you great learning outcomes.
