New learning styles can also be difficult for instructors to adjust. They may be hesitant to trying a new style since they may be comfortable with their old approach. Adequate training can be provided for instructors to support them with the preparation to teach a course in an active learning format.

my main take away from this course, particularly is that the dynamic shifted from centered and focused to student centered and focused.

I want to start using RUBRICs, still not sure how to apply them to my subject.

Having a rubric for students when doing peer evaluations seems like a great thing to implement online.

The “flipped classroom.” The idea is inherently an active learning best practice for online education just as the text suggest. This also promotes students learning to teach the material which is more hands on!.

I have found a well put together rubric can really help the instructor share the expected outcomes prior to the assignment being completed.

Having students take control of their learning is a great way to ensure the content is actually absorbed. Letting go and allowing students to lead might be uncomfortable at first, but it is worth it.

Although time management on assignments may take longer than expected, students need to adjust to a new way of preparing. for the online class.  Group projects have good outcomes when you have a rubric.  It is clear how much effort you make on a project because rubric's outline what needs to be included. Additionally, peer review can be utilized early to see what is missing for last minute work.

Just remembering that every class is different whether that is size, personalities, or technology. So being able to adjust my techniques to the needs of each class and taking it into consideration.

A rubric is extremely important in a face to face classroom. It is even more important in an online setting. Having a rubric specifically spells out for students what you as the instructor are looking for and how they can attain the grade they are hoping for. It also helps you are the instructor to be fair/consistent with grading.

When assigning  group projects it is useful to give guidance to establish roles of each within the group to facilitate collaboration.

Sharing the rubric and how to utilize the rubric is important. When something is graded then it should be reviewed what the key learning aspects are.

It is best to give students clear directions based on their ability and to provide rubrics to avoid confusion as to how an assignment was graded.

Recently, classrooms have switched from the traditional classroom to the active classroom and instructors need to take the role of the "movie director" directing their students on how to learn, reflect and work together to maximize their learning.

Using rubrics can be an affective assessor of your instruction.

Student involvement and engagement are the keys to active learning .

The key to active learning is student involvement and engagement. Students will participate, reflect, listen, and write, which are essential components of active learning. I plan to incorporate these aspects as much as possible in my future courses, whether they are online or face-to-face.

Group activities, which were a rarity in normal lectures and classes, should be much more numerous in active learning environments in order to help increase student engagement.

Students learn through active engagement. Fostering a flipped classroom approach and not trying to control the learning process will help students understand the content better.

Active learning is the new paradigm as it has shifted from traditional lecture. Active learning does not need to always be labor intensive, as it can be low-risk activities, such as think/pair/share, the muddiest point, or reflective writing. Assessments are also important and they must have clear rubrics attached.
