Is there a program that can be downloaded that automatically corrects grammatical and spelling errors during online course assignments especially for students where English is a 2nd language
?
Akilah,
I don't know but I will start asking around. . . .

If used correctly, that is, if students pay attention to it, MS Word warns of spelling (red underline) and grammar (green underline) inconsistencies. At the top of the word page are tools such as spelling and grammar which review the work entirely and gives options. There are also a thesaurus tab and a word count. (You can go further by translating the document to another language). I implore students to use this tool and to consider its self-learning capability. I have corrected 3 warnings just while writing this response in MSWord then copying/pasting to the forum….
George,
You make such a great point. I have implemented the five and out rule. Five mistakes and I quit grading. I don't use it much but it does wake students up to proofreading.
