Game Development Software

Free or low-cost game development software can be used to develop custom games. Some examples include Sploder, Game Maker Studio, Construct2 and Unity 3D. Visit the website of one of these types of games development software or find your own game development software and discuss the features you like. What game could you develop using the features of the software you have reviewed?

I explored a few of the game development software sites and all seem to have the same functionality of game devleopment. I work with Associates who have to key orders and bill clients correctly. One fo the challenges we have Associates have to make judgement calls on the acceptance of the orders and the Billing Associates have to bill accurately. They some submit double-billing. I would create a game that would challenge the Associates to accept or reject orders based on the required documents. Billing Associates would be engaged in a game that allowed them to find billing errors prior to billing.

I look at all of them. I have a former student that does game development on another platform, but his company if looking to use Unity.

I am interested in using LiveCode. I just bought 30 training licenses for my high school multimedia teacher (the software itself is open source with licensing for commercial use).

I am interested in developing US history games even though the market is in Common Core.

I used to manage a game development program. While I do not teach the topic, I certainly learned a lot while managing the faculty and working with the students on various things. I have played around with Unity3D and the Unreal Development Kit in the past. Both were fairly easy to navigate and provided a good opportunity for beginners as well as developers. Depending on your preference for programming languages, I found that the Unity3D was a little better in some ways because it provides more options for scripting languages but if you are able to understanding scripting in another language, the UnrealScript is not that difficult.

I would like to develop a game or simulation that focuses on computer forensics.

The idea of developing my own game for class is completely new to me. I am in foreign territory here.

I would like to find or develop a game where students can develop strategies for finding the break even point for their own business. I know there are websites that show the different graphs and you can move a slide to see how the area of profit ebbs or wanes, but I would like students to be able to set up there own business and look at the consequences of different scenarios.

I am not sure which of the game software would be best because, as I said, this is all completely new to me.

I personally like to use game salad, It simple there is no programing needed and can create simple 2d games and can still engage a student.

I am the unique position where i teach in the game art and design degree . The game project 3 class we develop one game level. The engine choice we use is unreal 4 . This while not a low budget game engine it is the complete opposite.

The things that I have done in the past is use lower budget engines like game maker in a early on class to teach about game flow and interaction.

I give various situations that I have the students design a game around . Some times its a theme sometimes its one word . By doing this early on it set a great foundation of thinking about proper design and flow and not to get caught up in the glitz and game of the big budget engine.
