Marie ,
There are many misconceptions surrounding accrediting agencies. We need to have a full understanding due to the nature of our positions.

Patty Aronoff

Not all schools use agents. In fact, the majority rely on in house staff for admissions.

Patty Aronoff

Excellent post! You have provided clear and thorough definitions for these terms.

Patty Aronoff

Alexandria,

Accreditation is a term that many students confuse with state licensure of the institution.

Patty Aronoff

John,
Wow! I would need a cheat sheet until they became fully ingrained in my brain!

My resource notebook contains many rules, regulations and definitions. I did not realize that Fair Consumer Credit plays a part in regulating my institution

Some of the terms we use at my Institution are; Enrollment, Enrollment Agreements, Programs, Marketing and Advertising as well as Accreditation and Scholarship Awards.

Accreditation- Accrediting agencies provide volunteer membership for institutions and act as "gatekeepers" for federal funding program participation if they are approved and recognized by the US Department of Education. Accrediting agencies are classified generally as national, regional, or programmatic depending on their charter, approval, and scope.

Enrollment-Registering a student to take programs or courses at an institution when such registration obligates the student to pay tuition to the institution and obligates the institution to provide instruction to the student.

Enrollment Agreement- A legally binding contract that is signed by applicants to licensed institutions as well as by authorized personnel at the institution. This contract forms the agreement to terms of enrollment and provides disclosures which inform consumers of important policies of the institution, which their signature indicates acknowledgement of.

Independent Postsecondary Educational Institution-Any postsecondary educational institution that operates in this state or makes application to operate in the state and is not provided, operated, and supported by the State of Florida, its political subdivisions, or the Federal Government.

Program- A prescribed group of courses, taken in the proper sequence to attain mastery of a body of knowledge or set of skills, and leading to a certificate, diploma, or degree.

The resource notebook contains the items discussed in the catalog, guidelines for the enrollment agreement are highlighted. I appreciate the detailed explanation on accreditation agencies involved which I did not know.

Michelle

The resource notebook is priceless. We started to include the vendor certification information in our notebook since all of our programs map to certifications. This has been helpful, since we have all the information in one place.

A few of the terms we use are: Admissions Representatives, Accreditations, and Enrollment.

Terms and Definitions, Institution's current Catalog, Enrollment agreement, marketing material, separate institutional policies, organization chart and the Florida Administrative Code Commission Rules.

Was not aware that I know what the marketing and advertising plans are for my institution and any updates. It does link in with discussion when I am talking to potential students for admission.

I can see this Notebook will be very useful for me.

I have discovered that there are so many different compliance topics that are very important in order to serve of Consumer. It very important guideline to follow in relation to the CIA and I am adding this to my resource book along with other items as well.

So far in my resource notebook I have, Enrollment Agreement, terms and conditions, policies and procedures,Florida Statutes. I will be adding information and updating as new information becaomes available. It's very important to have my resource notebook available and up to date to assure I am in complience.
