Screening
What do you consider best means of screening students before administering an entrance exam?
I would suggest a thorough exploration of the students reasons for wanting to attend school, work history, friends and family support, their understanding of financial aid, and their knowledge of demand for the potential careers they may pursue after graduation. It is important that the STUDENT, know his/herself and do their own research in the area they live and plan to pursue job options, employers desired characteristics they prefer when looking for new hires.
Great advice. I'll incorporate those ideas into my daily appointments.
Our school also includes looking at GPA and activities participated. We take extra care to look at grades for classes that specifically relate to the program they are interested in such as math and science grades when they want to enter into medical programs.
I agree motivation, determination, responsibility,& a realistic plan are very important. Family suport is very important. A student may not be able to work full-time & meet the academic goal as well.
I believe that it is mostly important that the student has a realistic understanding of what he can or can’t commit to.
We have students tell us what professionalism means to them as well. I think it is important that they have an understanding of what being professional means to them and that they need to be professional not only at work but in a school setting as well.
Yes, I agree. Our school has a list of qualifying questions to ensure the student is making a wise choice.
Chris,
Screening is very important in the admissions process. It is necessary that we make sure that students are making good choices when enrolling in our courses to make sure that we retain the student. Sometimes we as human want to do things but they are not always a good fit and it is our responsibility to ensure that we are helping our students make the best choices that they can make for their futures.

The best means is to listen to what your students are telling you and ask further clarification questions to make sure you understand the information properly. It's always important to be consistent and follow the process
