It looks like you have characteristics from various generational styles. How do you think that helps you when communicating with you 'customers'?

As a Gen X member, i can really appreciate a face to face conversation to discuss any and all issues at hand. Technology has become the norm for most day to day cummunication, which makes me feel like we forget what it's like to actually speak to one another.

It's good that you are aware of your preference and that you understand how technology has changed the game a bit. How can you modify your preferred style to better connect with the Millennials or others that might not prefer face-to-face communication?

I believe I'm part of the generation X. I like to have fun while working as well as be the top performer. I'm very competitvie, however, I feel I could also be group in the baby boomer generation. I want everything to be explained to me in detail and I have a tendency to go overboard with work.

It looks like you have a blended communication preference. How do you think having a blended style can help you in your role?

Texting, Instra gram ( I think that is how you spell it), Facebook, my space, etc....It's funny becasue I actually just got a phone with the perks and whistles and it's actually great. I have resisted having internet on my phone for years but now enjoy it.

I use a lot of the baby boomer communication traits. I like to a answer questions very thoroughly and prefer phone or face to face meeting.

in the last 5 years I have gotten more into social media. At first I thought it was lame-- who would want all their info out there-- but after moving to different states it became much easier to stay in touch this way. While it may be 'easier' it doesn't mean I like it. I'd still prefer the phone. Work-wise, if I get tired email or foresee an email war about to happen, I will get up and go talk to the person face-to-face so there's no reading between the lines.

I am from the Generation X, however, I perfer scheduled meetings, face to face meetings and to be direct to the point

Kelley,
So it sounds like you have some baby boomer influence in your communication which can help you with that generation. How do you adapt for the millenial generation?

Dr. Jean Norris

I use email every day, but I like it the communication face to face

Cinthia,
Interesting that many people fall into this same situaiton. How do you manage great communication when people have difference preferences?

Stereotypes associated with Gen Y include the preference to work smarter, not harder and the desire for immediate feedback and rewards.

Nydia,
How do stereotypes hinder relationships?

Dr. Jean Norris

Attitude is extremely important for success in the work world. We need the verbal and appropiate communication to succesfull.

I agree Migdalia, attitude is extremely important. If you think about your communication preferences, what preferences do you have that might not be a part of the traditional style for your generation?

Dr. Jean Norris

Texting; Instantaneous communication is a very integrated part of our society today.

That's so true Katherine. Would you say that texting and immediate communication is your preference too?

Dr. Jean Norris

The communication preference that I have that's associated with my generation is face to face communication. I prefer face to face communication because not only do I enjoy the interaction but I also tend to take note of the body language.
