We recommend JIST Publications. They have an entire catalog of great books on resume building, interviewing skills, cover letters, how to get the interview, and more. The explanations in the catalog are very good and help to make a decision about which books to buy. I believe they also have videos and more.

We're trying "what color is your parachute" in our normal package along with interview power tapes and we do the resume, cover letters. good responses to the new book so far !!!

Does anyone know if "Career Development and Services: A Cognitive Approach" by Gary Peterson, James Sampson, and Robert Reardon is any good as a reference?

Always a great idea to check forums to get the opinion of others. Did you get replies that were helpful? There are actually many many good resources to have in your resource center at the school or career services department. Suggest you get a list of publications such as those from JIST, who are specialists in placement and employment skills training. Review as many as you can and start to build your center. Decide for yourself which are most effective for your students.

All in all, I'd say yes. The replies were helpful.
I have the catalog for JIST publication ... and a limited budget. I would like so many of their resources, but they do not allow preview of their Video/DVD publications.
Can anyone recommend a good video/DVD, by JIST or anyone else that explains job-search networking.

Always a challenge when resources are limited and you can't preview the materials. Good news is that there are a lot of low and no cost employment and career skills information available. We just received a catalog from www.channng-bete.com with several low cost employee development booklets. Also try the Internet. There are dozens of pages of websites that can be useful to your students.

How could I go about ordering a manual through your organization?
Dear Susan,
In addition to assting gradautes with their career search I also teach a course called Career Management. This is a course that students usually take in their second to last term at school prior to doing their externship. This course examines the job search process, assists students with writing a professional resume, cover letter, reference sheet and thank you letter. Additionally, it teaches them about interviewing skills and how to get their dream job and keep that job. Usually at the end of each chapter I show a DVD that sums up our chapter,however, some of these DVDs are a little corny and outdated. The information is relevant and great, however,some of the students are so distracted by the way it is being presented,that the miss the message of the DVD. Do you have any recommendations of DVDs that I could use to show my class? I appreciate any advice you can offer.

You may want to check out http://www.learningseed.com. We are currently using a few of their DVD's for our job search workshop (Manners at Work and Sell Yourself). They are a bit outdated, but the material still has an impact on our students.
