Intervention
All students are different. Some will welcome help & other will resist. It's importaint not to get too much in the personal business of others.
To roud up and have a very conected conversation with the students really help to open that door and also to increase their beliver in themself
Is it appropriate to persist with those who initially resist your help, particularly when you can see a solution to the problem that is causing them to struggle?
Students have all kinds of issues. If it wasnt for intervention We would have a lot drop out.A lot of them feel hopeless sometimes and just having a little help here or there really helps them to stay on track.
What triggers interventions at your school and who is responsible for making this happen? Do you have any data to indicate the effectiveness of these actions?
If you can make them feel that their problem is a normal occurence for a lot of students, but that you will try to find a solution, it will usually put them at ease to accept assistance.
As an instructor, it is also important to remember what stresses we had when we were students and try to let the student know we understand what they are going through and offer a helping hand.
Good point, James. It is also important to be sensitive to how the world has changed. The problems and pressures that students face today are similar in some ways, but also very different, to those experienced by previous generations.
