Intervention
I truely agree that if we catch the problem early and lend an ear there is probably something we can do to help the student over come what ever it is that is making them feel that they do not want to continue in school, encouraging them to finish what they started so that they can have a carrer and a better future is very important.
I agree with you as well. I have encountered many students are simply feeling very overwhelmed with their lives and/or school and just some extra reassurance from an outsider they trust can put them at ease.
I agree. I believe that if situations/problems are identified early in the game, we can try to find a solution before the situation gets worse. Identifying situations that can be potential problems starts with communication.
I agree with the importance of timely intervention, Alicia. Of course, the challenge is learning about an issue before it gets out of hand. What methods do you use to identify problems early in the game?
Hello,
I ask a lot of questions, I believe it is called probing. Also many situations are sent my way for resolutions. So I think outside of the box and try to solve situations before they get out of control.
I agree 100%. Showing concern for student issues seems to be a big deal. Students want to feel like the staff is in it to win it. They want our help, they want to be able to open up to us. I think it is very important to watch students behavior along with their attendance. A lot of the drops I have seen were something I saw coming in all reality.
Holly, if you saw the drops coming were you willing/able to offer some guidance?
Behavioral characteristics do not manifest overtime but can be detected as time goes by. The earlier one takes steps to correct or improve the situation, the better.
In many ways it is like a disease. You have a much better chance to cure or fix the problem with early detection!
