Negative energy can kill any organization, but it is essential to minimize negativity in our business more than most. We are promising to change futures and change lives, which will only come with a positive, forward-thinking attitude.

What are some ways you combat negativity at work?
It’s important to find ways to reduce negative workplace attitudes, and instead encourage positive attitudes and cooperation. It can help to find out what is causing them to feel and behave in this fashion.Often there is an underlying problem that can be causing the issue to occur, which if resolved, can not only solve the negative attitude problems, but improve other factors in the work environment as well.
It also makes your approach to your job easier. Embracing and owning your role in a students success, regardless of other issues, will produce better outcomes overall
Negative energy needs to be stopped immediately. Find the problem student and have a private conversation about the issue. Try to make a positive learning experience for both of you.

By not embracing negative comments or encouring this type of attitude we can all help keep the negative attitudes to a minumum.You can reply with somthing positive also to change the attitude.
This statement is so true. Negative energy can KILL. As an educator, we must lead by example. It is hard to lead someone when your personal baggage is bigger than the students. We must able to manage our own personal issues and lead a life so that our students can follow. I've seen some situations where instructor's life is soo messed up that all of students know about this. Not a good way to lead our students. The question for the readers of this blog, "If we are promising change futures and change lives," taking care of our own baggage important or not important?
Sometimes someones comments may appear as negative and are really valid concerns only presented in a negative way look at the facts and not the statements first to see if there are valid ideas that need to be addressed and than ask the individual to offer positive solutions this brings down the negative tone and acklnowlodges to individuals concern thereby helping to make them feel valued in working toward the goal.

I have had some students that other instructors have said " that student has a bad attitude and when they get to my class they dont seem to fit the billing for what was told to me. My students start off with clean slates and get the respect from the get go.

This is really important. When I taught public school, I tried to stay out of the "rotten student" discussions so that I could give students a clean slate.

I think you can combat negativity is curving those conversations that come up, encouraging people to deal with conflict and being a connector to deal with issues. Also by not engaging in gossip.

Fighting a negative attitude with a positive attitude is a challenge, but worth it. Choosing to frame things in a positive way with positive terms will work given time.
