I had two students that became friends. Both worked besides going to school. I gave a weekend homework assignment to the class due on Monday. When I collected the homework and was reading it to grade it I found that I had read that exact essay answer earlier. So i looked thru the pile of papers and i found it was the two girls mentioned above. I put them side by side and went word for word and found that there was a 3 word difference in the entire assignment. Upon conclusion of the class i asked the two girls to meet with me tomorrow before class. I set a time and they agreed. My gut feeling was to give them both zeros, speak to them on the reason cheating is not the way to go but I wanted to discuss this with the Dean. He said I was right. Also this event now prevented either of the girls from becoming a Student Ambassador. They never cheated again.
