I have no problem asking the student who has knowledge a few extra questions, but a few questions could develop. The student could start showing off, other students might feel resentful. I have had instances where the student had wrong information and they shared their wrong beliefs with the rest of the class. Often there is no one so strong in their beleifs as someone who is wrong. I will ask how they came to their knowledge or beleif and share how I see other nurses practice in a manner that is not always correct. I know that I must always challenge myself to keep current and look for the current research to support that practice. This discussion allows me to discuss with students the need to be current and keep an open mind no matter our age. I certainly learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
