retention of students

I believe one way we can ensure the retention of students would be to make sure they have transportation to and from school.

It has been my experience that many students do not have a driver's liscence and or a car, therefore making it very difficult for them to attend school, or get to school on time.  With that frustration some of them may tend to drop out.

If there was some way we could instute a car pool for some students and possibly provide them with bus passes for each module that may perhaps help them stay enrolled in school.

Also, this would have to be instuted before they enrolled.

I agree, many of our students do not have transportation to or from school.  One thing we try to do is post a car pool list on the bulletin board.  We also have copies of the bus schedule for the students. Our Student Success Advisor and Director of Student services try to have resources available for them.

tHE STUDENT NEEDS TO OVERCOME HURDLES AND MOVE ON, HOW WILL THEY GET TO A JOB, NO EXCUSES,

Although we do need to prepare students to be self sufficient, this is typically part of the evalution that happens through their time in post secondary institutions as they grow and develop. I think it is our responsibilty as administrators and educators to baby step them there and provide whatever level of support we can to help them be successful.

Education has the power to be life changing and we need to do whatever it takes to help students embrace this opportunity.
