ED-106 Enhancing Student Learning
What I gained the most from this course was a sincere and clearer understanding of different reading disabilities and/or language barriers often exhibited in classes. I have tried a few items during my teaching tenure and with some success, however I am now going to instill the suggestions mentioned in this course material in full force. I wish I had taken this course two years ago.
I think all instructors should take time to invest in. Our students are so diversified now and many with reading disabilities.
And we all know as Insrtructors.... we never give up on any student to be successful!!

Hi Chemo,
I agree with you. As an instructor we must never give up on our students. I try to provide my students with every opportunity to be successful. My teaching mantra is "When my students succeed, I succeed!" ;-)

Yes, I agree. Online instruction is at its most challenging when encountering those students who, for whatever reason, fall behind.
It’s our responsibility as on-line instructors and facilitators to encourage these students to return to the fold.
We don’t often succeed, unfortunately. However, we must make the effort, as we would in a face-to-face learning environment.
I find that persistent encouragement through email and open-forum discussions helps to re-build the confidence of students—as well as offering them the opportunity to improve the quality of their work.
I can agree that we should never give up on our students. I find the issue lies in where and when we are coddling students vs. empowering them to stand on their own. I find today that many schools are pressuring instructors to " he;p students along to graduate" or they are focusing on "student success rates" ( i.e., we want you to pass the student at all costs or you may not keep your job). I think that ultimately, it is the students responsibility to show up, do the work, and earn the grade.
It is our job as instructors to always have our students and their abilities at our forefront. if we have failed to provide our students with what they need, on their level, we have failed at our job.
It is my feeling that every student counts and an instructor should put forth his best effort each day on every student.
