I have found that the students with depression or a learning disability or even not very good with the language to be the most rewarding. Seems they value to be a part of society that is productive. They typically do show the signs of frustration without any type of outburst from them. It becomes very recognizable early in every course if you have that type of student. I can proudly say at this time I have never given up on any student in my class, but unfortunately the maturity is not there for them or they do not follow with school procedures and tend to fail themselves. I always make myself availablre to any student that wants to go over material on Thurdays. This makes the students more comfortable with anything the may have dificulty with. Sometimes a student will not say he does not understand in class because he is afraid of peer pressure and stays late to tone the skill. Other times a student has the skill but want to perfect it and stay late for practice. We as instructors can only present material and skills with the experience we have but the effort to be part of that choosen carrer really starts with them and their need for a better life, job or status. Yes at times it can be frustating for us but the rewards from the ones that apply themselves is obvious when they say now I have it. Oh so easy!!!
