ED 111 Implementing Active Learning

With the various age ranges in my classes, implementing active learning allows the students to engage in both critical and analytical thinking with one another and with the various ages, Active learning does not descriminate.   With out even thinking about it, the students engage their piers, and what I have noticed is that everyone is more successful in the long run.

I agree

That's interesting to hear that it crosses age; which I would have thought to be a barrier.  what do you teach?

I have trouble with "hecklers"...I often have a few who like to challenge me; partly because I'm substituting, and partly because of my smaller build.  I always have to prove that I'm not a push over, and I hate to do the carrots & sticks thing.  I always try to be interesting; inject current events or annecdotes from life, but I always have trouble with the few who take this as their personal challenge to derail me....sandbagging the class; as I have to take time out to dicipline if cojoling doesn't work [which eventually is the case with some].

I teach polysomnography....Its pretty technical, a science if you willl.  There isnt really time for people to mess around.  You need to learn it and know it.
