From Traditional to Remote

I have had a number of my colleagues express frustrations in getting their students to transition from the traditional classroom setting to Remote learning. As we know due to the Pandemic. They ask why I'm not so frustrated. I'm not frustrated because we (me and my students) have been using technology tools prior to Remote learning. My students use their Smart Board, use their desktops, their laptops, use their phones within the classroom. I teach and facilitate learning in the classroom using Canvas, Google Classroom. We do this consistently. My students understand the various ways technology can help them achieve their learning. Using technology as Remote learning is not new to my students. Besides, I ask, if it is proven that students are already interested and engaged in technology, why not integrate it into the traditional classroom to make teaching and learning more effective. And now that we are all Remote Learning, they were able to easily transition over.

I'm a new instructor. Technology is not my forte. I'm in the construction industry and teach plumbing in the evening. Teaching plumbing is easy for me. Teaching plumbing in this era of Corona virus will be different because I need the technical skills in computers to provide the information, make it accessible and understand how to use it to the maximum and be able to help students with their own lack of knowledge.
