CREATING LONG TERM MEMORY

I enjoy giving my class prpjects and such. I helps them remember the material better and also helps me see weak spots that needs to be fixed in class

Creative activities for visual learners

Colored markers, diagrams, post its and many games enhance the learning experience in all learning styles

games

My students love word searches and any type of game to enhance their learning experience

activities

I use many group activities to not pnly enhace learning but also to enhance team buiding skills Modifications of "Survival" games and other games are fun and enhance learning

using visuals

Visual aids work extremely well in most classes I find that a picture, diagram, flash cards etc.. helps students not only learn and remember, but also fosters good study habits

Covering content vs. learning

I do play games as learning tools but usually for review. I like the idea of using them to introduce content. Most if not all of the group activities will work well no matter what the class is. My trouble is usually having the time to prepare for the activity ahead of time,as I do not have a lot of prep time, and figuring out how to work it into the class. I generally try to have at least one student centered activity for each class period (usually 2 hrs) but still have struggled to cover content. I think I still end up lecturing much of the time because it does not take as much prep time and Icahn cover the most content that way. I am still trying to figure out how to worry less about providing the content for the students, after all they do have a textbook, and concentrate on creating meaningful ways of helping them move the content into memory.

eyes and ears

As I was reading your activity idea on "eyes and ears?" I was already thinking on how I can use this method for our students in clinical practice. This would be an excellent method to be given every now and then to help our students build and strengthen on assessment skills. I also think when it is given at spur of the moment; surely they will be on thier toes with "eyes wide and ears open" at every clinical practice. Will let you know how it turns out. Thank You

Quiz detractors

I have a problem connecting a few answers with content provided in the text. Wheras I can agree with the answer, the information was not presented in the content mateial. For example "Whole Brain Organizer" list "tapping into visual/spatial abilities". Auditory is not mentioned, however it in fact (and correctly so)a part of the correct answer.

Word Search ROCKS!

Idle mind= idle time

Getting the sudent up

These are great ideas and strategies to get the students active.

New techniques

This training has shown me new techniques to present to my students.

Secret identity

I really like this game as a way to prepare students for real world experiences and thinking outside the box. Patients so often have medical staff playing a guessing game as to what medications they are taking and even the signs and symptoms they are having. It is a great way for students to get practice with signs & symptoms of disease and disorders.

studying mor than one way

there are multide ways of studying, and it is important for the instructor to dempnsterate them to the student

creative activities

It is very beneficial for the students to be creative in any way they can, so the learning is not a burdon and hard

word search

For very long terminology it id good to use the word search, to inhance the knowledge

Jeopardy

It is very imkportant to keep students involved, in different ways of learning

Creative activities

I really like the idea that instructors can tap into their own creative skills to help students learn better. In the medical field, sometimes you have to use your creative side to better serve your patients.

visual learners

draw on board with color markers, underline, quote and show where on the body it is located with adjacent body parts. Goes a long way.

Word search

For long muscle terms and medical conditions works for students with language difficulties. They see the word over and over and if written, it often helps with the spelling by the end of the term.

Jeopardy

great to help students, see, hear and the spelling of complicated words/terms.
