Try using tools that seem “fun” and collaborative. Many instructors are trying blogs for a couple of classes. Through blog creation and communication, there can be more interaction between students as well as between the students and the instructor.

Facilitation skills that are needed: Engage students in the learning process, particularly in the beginning, use appropriate questioning, listening, and feedback skills, provide direction and support to learners, manage online discussions, build or facilitate building of online teams, facilitate relationship building, and motivate students.

A pattern of teaching basically characterizes how an instructor provides information to students and how his/her virtual classroom practice becomes obvious as it is repeated consistently over a period of time.

 Technology tools should support, not hinder, the teaching and learning process. Assessing of each technology tools provide essential feedback as to whether to continue to use it or to investigate another technology tool to better serve the instructor and students. 

Multiple evaluations are always better than just one.

Types of assessments: formative, summative, self, or peer.

Scaffolding provides structure for student learning and focus for student activities. Students build upon their prior knowledge, experiences, and skills with new knowledge presented in an online course to develop more complex and robust learning scaffolds.

Similar course-module design and development of content resulting in approximately the same time on task creates an environment students will become familiar with.

There are different types of behaviors amoung e-learning students including: noisy, quiet, disruptors, intimidators, and procrastinators. 

Students exhibit various learning styles: avoidant, competitive, dependent, collaborative, participant, and independent.
