About me

I"m very new to my current role, but I am also very passionate about connecting with each student that comes to my office.  My goal is to help the students develop a realistic, obtainable academic and career path.  I have six children, ranging from ages 6-21, and one granddaughter that is 3 months old.  I plan on attending my first NACADA regional conference in March to hopefully gain useful insight about my role and to connect with other advisors who are in a similar setting.

Activity

I never really thought about the importance of calming the mind and body in the days leading up to an interview, but it makes complete sense.  Nerves and higher anxiety are normally experienced in leading up to the interview, so taking certain measures like reducing caffeine, eating healthy, getting plenty of rest, and relaxing are all important to getting you in the right mindset.

I added a lot of information into an upcoming interview workshop, especially in regards to pre-interview prep.  Love the quote about how the interview is the easy part, its the prep work that leads up to it.

It is so important as career leaders to encourage not only students, but also faculty, to embrace the exciting changes that will result from expanded AI use.  I personally have an action plan to hold a small seminar for faculty and students within my organization on how they should work together on integrating the use of AI in career readiness, as well as the classroom.

AI is a valuable tool for learners, professionals, teachers, etc.  However, we have to teach our learners to use AI responsibly, ethically, and that it does not replace human interaction.  I would like to see procedures set in place to teach students and learners how to implement critical thinking skills to develop well thought out, precise prompts for using AI.

Using AI platforms that can create learning materials presentations is overall a time saver.  Using mock interview options, on demand games, etc. will enhance learner engagement.

Although I have a basic knowledge of AI and it's importance in resume/interview prep, I did learn about three different AI platforms that students/schools can use; Career Prepped, Quinciaa, and Big Interview.  These three platforms all seem to provide great tools and resources relevant to career pathways.

I have never given to much thought to the potential inaccuracy of AI due to the biases of the algorithms.  I think this is a very important point that needs to be explained to students; meaning, you get a good general basis of an idea from AI but it is not always perfectly correct.  You need to follow up any true research by using reputable sources and fact checking.

Really enjoyed the "5 Keys to Success" ,it's a great tool to offer students to become more rounded employees.  Also, it was a great point to teach students to not include themselves in office drama; this just causes problems and can lean to issues with co-workers.

Great point with making the students understand that the interview is not just about the interviewer; it is also to their advantage to make sure the company is the right fit for them. This way of thinking takes makes the interview less intimidating in my opinion.
