I always thought ai order for Title IX to apply the student would actually have to report it so I learned it is still my responsibilities something suspicious is report it to me, I can report it to the Title IX coordinator.

I never fully understood the Cleary Act until now. I now understand it’s significance and my responsibility in reporting the mandated unsafe acts.

Create an environment where the students can take risk but do not humiliates a student. How I perceive humiliation might be different how the student would experience it especially when being challenged to take risk.  Be encouraging without creating humiliation.

REFOCUS! self examination of yourself as an instructor to provide the best learning experience and the tools to do so. Improvements for oneself and promoting a positive learning environment. I will remind myself that to much storytelling can negatively impact learning. I love telling stories so I’m making a note to manage this.

Teaching should not be a dictatorship. Being demanding or inflexible does not necessarily mean the students will mold into compliance. It is also a sign of disrespect, and does not foster learning. Showing the human side of who are you are respecting the students as they are while still promoting a positive learning environment is ideal.

Teaching case vs class is a powerful concept because linking the material to personal experiences enhances engagement of the students. I also never thought about the power of ego-status as an extrinsic student need until this course. I often push to be ambitious but never think about the social reward outcome that can be the driving factor for student success.

In labs, positive reinforcement is always desired, and should serve as a heads up for the next class session, rather than focusing on the negative. The learning experience is progressive.

I learned the value of continuing to reassure the students this is just one step in them reaching their ultimate goal. Reassurance that they can be successful in the course which will then lead to them reaching their ultimate goal.

I took away two major components from this module. 1. Never underestimate the value of a syllabus. I always knew a syllabus would outline everything needed for the course, but I never thought about how it could be a tool to reduce anxiety for the students. 2. The value of really taking a few minutes before class to connect with the students.

Being a “Model, Manager, and Motivator” is a new concept for me. I have always known to act in a professional manner but never thinking about how this 3 in 1 model can really change the way students see you as their instructor. If someone were to ask me prior to taking this course how I viewed being a “manager,” I would have immediately just thought about all the ways the instructor is responsible for taking control over the class. I never thought about all the things that need to happen prior to the class starting and how those responsibilities… >>>
