By taking the time to periodically and methodically review online assessment questions, instructors can design scenarios and case studies that help the students relate the content to real-world situations, therefore making the learning experience meaningful to them.

It is important for faculty to provide meaningful and individualized feedback to students throughout the course to guide the students in their learning. Feedback should be considered, such as a rubric or auditory feedback at the end of the learning process and immediate feedback if the students take interactive quizzes during the course.

Faculty can create a good online learning environment by using student-centered and engaging learning strategies through the use of chat rooms, and discussion boards that provide clear instructions and keep students on task.

School accreditation site visitors look for consistent frameworks being used throughout the curriculum. All syllabi used in the program need to be reviewed and updated to ensure all course learning objectives are being met.

I work in higher education and have a class of 46 students in a foundation of nursing theory class. The students vary in age from 19-35 and I can see differences in work ethic and in the ability of the older students to remain focused. What are some of your best strategies for keeping the entire class engaged?

I see mixed reality as a means to offer students a variety of learning options to meet their learning needs. Funding for MR will continue to be a challenge. Perhaps education and large corporations can intersect to better prepare students by funding emerging technologies that will improve student outcomes and help create a more competent and confident workforce.

AR opportunities in healthcare education abound!  With the inclusion of Digital Moulage™ in AR, simulation scenarios can tackle complex scenarios by incorporating audio, video, and image files using QR codes to provide the students with a realistic experience in an intensive care and emergency room settings.

Virtual reality has the potential to impact each student by increasing the level of interest and engagement in a course or activity. I can envision VR being used in nursing education to teach skills, improve clinical judgment, and develop interdisciplinarily scenarios that will involve multiple providers.

Comment on Carolyn Farrell's post: Comment on Carolyn Farrell's post: I agree Carolyn that virtual and augmented reality is another step in providing nursing students with an alternative to specialty clinical scenarios where we can ensure each student has the same clinical experience. With increasing competition for clinical sites and limitations placed on how many nursing students can attend a site, educators must be creative and use technology to support student learning. What we really need to be asking is if students can apply the clinical judgment skills learned through virtual reality to real-life clinical scenarios.
