As a manager I find myself more than often strugling with this issue, time management. One point presented during the course is the fact that regerdless of your level of education one may still not been a great manager of time. In retrospective if you take a look at our educational system we are not taugh how to properly managed our work schedule or personal life. Too often senior managers assumed that education is equal to the ability of managing time and when the subordinate fails to meet deadlines rather than received guidance they are reprimand creating an unpleasant environment… >>>

The key to giving or receiving feedback is an open door to communication. Second to that is the approcah used by the giver when delivering the feedback. Ultimately a consideration for the feelings of the receiver. Ocassionaly, managers forget to take into account the human side of their subordinates.

Presentation skills are both innate and learned. Speakers need to practice in order to develop their presentation skills and to loose the fear of presenting. Presenations can be a great tool when teaching new concepts and methods to students. a well design presentation with a balance mix of resources will created a long lasting impression on students aiding in the recall of learned materials.

Career education instructors need to take in to account the type and skill level of students. The vast majority of students attending career education institutions fall under the classification of nontraditional students and as such we need to tailor our presentation skills towards their learning abilities. Most of these students have been out of the classroom for a large period of time which creates a difficulty as they may have loss a large percentage of their basic skills, namely, reading, math, language handling. Our presentations need to be tailor in such a way as to enable us to reach all… >>>

A little over three years ago I was hired to start a new program with my present employer. I was a rather tall order due to the fact that it was a program to be deliver in Spanish. After countless hours of translation and reviews we finally implemented the new program. To my personal and professional pride today that program as a Hispanic that program has a retention rate of 86% even better than the overall institution retention rate.

We attribute that success to the fact that the instructors and I keep constant contact with all the students in the… >>>

The presence of faculty during the initial orientation is of greta important to most students. A brief contact with faculty could go long ways with the future students. Actually, that can be the convincing factor in getting the individual to accept it's new reality as an "student". Unfortunately, in our industry (for-profit) only a selected group of faculty is ever present during orientation. Mainly the administration and departments chairs are the main event performers at orientations. Various entities used different aprroaches to the handling of students and the information distributed during orientation. Is this type of operation help out students… >>>

I had been a academic administrator in the education private sector for the last eight years and I have to say that sometimes our handling of students expectations are shortsighted. We promised the world to our studentd during the enrollment process and once reality sets down after the hand-off from admission to academics stories quickly change. Adult learners are usually returning to school in response to changes in their life and after many years of not been enroll in an educational program but this two factors do not make them less knowledgeable or deserving consumers. In all actuallity because of… >>>

Even though some career colleges used pretests as an evaluation tool for faculty rather than an assessment tool for students knowledge, I certainly believe in the effectiveness of the pretest. They are a valuable tool in determining not only student knowledge, but in some instances they can give the instructor a hint of the learning abilities of the students. Additionally, pretests can be a guiding light in determining and following course content. At the end of the course a posttest that shows improvement over the initial scores on the pretest sholud be a source of hapiness for the instructor, such… >>>

Students come to career schools with the intention of improving on existing skills and at the same time learn new ones. Sometimes as instructors we do not appreciate or realize the efforts that this adult learners are going through in order to move forward in their careers and life. I am not advocating for a free ride, but we own them a fair chance at learning and reaching their goals. Occasionally, instructors have the tendency to overlook the obvious and not to take into consideration the effects of everyday life into the learning process. Our methodology and teaching practices must… >>>
