Retention is everyone's job. Rather than putting all focus on new students, find out why current students are withdrawing from the institution.
Post local events and fun things to do on Announcements on the LMS.
In Asynch discussion boards, students have to be given guidelines as to what is an appropriate response (e.g. not just "I agree")In Synch discussion, students can be guided on a "live" board.
Use only appropriate tools. Change those tech tools that do not serve the class.
-Keep powerpoints to 10-15 minutes
-Assess technology and move to aa different technology if needed
- Keep in regular touch with students
_ Find out about what is holding the student back from participating
- Share how students can get tech support
Endeavor to maintain a lively discussion including all students. Remind students tactfully that their participation makes the class more interesting and inclusive.
It's important to step in and keep the discussion going when it starts to fade, adding more in-depth questions and cheering on the class.
Be involved in the online discussion. Email students who may not be participating with questions and encouragement
Having the instructor's experiences as a student in the bio. Instructor listing jobs they took as a student and some trials they overcame to become an instructor.

Career Ed Lounge is embedded in over eighty professional development portals serving the career and technical education community. Performance Groups in the Lounge are integrated with related learning opportunities offered on these portals. With a few exceptions, Performance Groups are also publicly available to any member of the Lounge to maximize peer-to-peer learning and performance outcomes.
